Miriam Kaiser is a Slovak violinist, songwriter and singer who has released one EP, two albums, and in autumn 2018 she is preparing her third album. In her music she combines elements of classical music, stage production, and traditional Slovak melodies. At our festival she will appear as a trio with cellist Júlia Veselá and Milan Adamec on violin and electronics. A graduate of the Bratislava Conservatory, Miriam composed her first song ‘Premenná’ during the time she worked as a violinist in the Slovak National Theater Orchestra. This song was one of the tracks on her 2010 EP ‘Isté Veci’ and reached the top of the chart of Radio 7 and the Gospel Parade of Radio Lumen. Her first CD, ‘Deň Dňu’ was released in 2014, followed by a remarkable album called ‘Color Sounds’ two years later. This included varied and colourful music inspired by, among other things, Slovak folklore. It also featured visual design by the filmmaker and photographer Braňo Molnár.

Miriam creates a varied, colorful and stylish music that appeals to a wide range of listeners. Her works can be described as imaginative playful pieces full of pictures, deep lyrics and a fascinating voice. Her expression and musical language combine elegance and beauty with emotions, in line with works of her favourites such as minimalists Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt, the Kronos Quartet, Icelandic composers Ólafur Arnalds and Jóhann Jóhanssonn, or innovators in pop and jazz Avishai Cohen, Lisa Hannigan, Esperanza Spalding, Katie Melua, Markéta Irglová, Anna Maria Jopek, Sting, Cinematic Orchestra, Woodkid and the Orff Brothers. Miriam favours a sensitive approach to her instruments, and fine nuances, but sometimes, depending on the song, she also likes agility, aggressiveness and strength.

Come and enjoy her performance at WMFB on Saturday, September 15, at 4:00 PM at Véčko.
