FOCUS MOROCCO
Nguyên Lê once referred to himself as the embodiment of the fusion of cultures. The songs of this French guitarist with Vietnamese origins transcend all boundaries. In his jazz compositions you can hear elements of Asian but also African music, funk, rock or even trip-hop. He combines the Western guitar sound with ethnic percussion or flute. On his latest album Silk&Sand, his precise guitar solos are complemented by oriental-sounding drums, behind which sits the excellent Moroccan percussionist Rhani Krija (known, for example, from his collaboration with Sting). Music of Nguyên Lê is playfully explorative, and combines surprising elements and creates a unique acoustic experience.
